Breast cancer isn’t a very lighthearted
theme, but if there’s one theme that’s
perfect for pinups, it’s their tits. This
week (this month to be exact) on The Pinup
Blog: Pinups and breast cancer
awareness!
Rethink Breast Cancer
Starting out with a little retro fun, here is
Rethink
Breast Cancer’s ad for the Fashion
Targets Breast Cancer t-shirt. Both
organizations are aimed at young adults;
While Rethink Breast Cancer are
responsible for some controversial
ads, Fashion Targets Breast Cancer
have super-model spokeswomen, the likes
of Gisele Caroline Bündchen and Claudia
Schiffer.
Kylie Minogue - Showgirl
Kylie
Minogue, the ultimate showgirl, has been
involved in breast cancer awareness for
years. Diagnosed, herself, back in 2005,
rather than go underground, she was open
about her experiences and even documented it
in “White Diamond”, her documentary about
returning to the stage after her diagnosis.
The Rosebud Burlesque Club
The
Rosebud Burlesque Club and Academy
was founded only two years ago, and
already they aim to make a difference.
The club has produced a 14-month
calender and plan to raise $10,000 for
breast cancer research in Canada.
In their own worthy words:
“The Rosebuds are a neo burlesque feminist
social club which supports women's causes and
other community issues. We strive to
celebrate the beauty and glamour of the
Female form in all its many variations. We
are highly inclusive in our membership and
our members range widely in age, body type,
ethnicity and backgrounds.”
DeviantART - Pink
Awareness
DeviantARTists never
disappoint. Always on the cutting edge of
art-meets-life. As always, all medias are
game, and there are beautiful examples of
photography, manga, comics and cartoons:
Pinups for Purpose
Calenders, as you
can see, are the most common way to
raise funds for breast cancer
organizations. Pinups for
Purpose create a calendar featuring
breast cancer survivors, aiming at
$30,000 to be given to charities that
support patients with breast cancer.
They also came up with the clever idea
for other organizations to resell the
calenders, in order to collect more
funds. Sexy, smart and aware!
Bowling for Boobies and Mark
Wasyl
Originally, I was
only going to write about Mark Wasyl
(fabulous creator of Drop Dead
Sexy pinups and a long-time Pinup
Blog favorite) and his contribution of
the cartoon neo-pinup logo to Bowling for
Boobies (to the left). One look at
the Bowling for Boobies site changed my
mind, though. This annual fund raising
event seems to attract the sexiest
celebrity names, like Holly Madison and
Pamela Anderson, making it one of the
bustiest breast cancer events around.
Pink Ribbon Pinups
Pink Ribbon
Pinups is a diverse classic pinup
calender, featuring survivors and women
living with breast cancer. The idea
being “empowering and celebrating
all women through these stories and
photos.” All proceeds go to the
Canadian
Breast Cancer Foundation. The
calender is beautiful and a clean
job-well-done. I also recommend to visit
the site, which is beautifully designed
as well.
Plastered Pinups by Keep a
Breast
Keep a Breast is a non-profit
organization with neo-pinup aesthetics,
keeping the younger generation abreast about
breast cancer. The org hosts fun events like
Plastered Pinups, which are perfect for all
you pinup lovers out there:
Another reason to become a member of Keep a
Breast is that they make sure that men
realize that tits are not just a girl thang:
