Sometimes disturbing, sometimes arousing,
always meaningful, women fine artists, from
all over the world, give new meaning to pinup
art.Looking for meaning in pinup art is
sometimes a little discouraging. It’s only
natural that women would want to talk about
the issue of women. Women fine artists do it
visually. Their works are full of sex and
talk about sex simultaneously.

Linda
Lowen is a former, award winning,
broadcast journalist specializing in
women's issues. Lowen’s blog at
About.com, Linda's
Women’s Issues Blog, deals with
important women’s issues, such as
violence against women, women’s lower
pay in comparison to men’s, sexual
issues and many more. In her article,
Using Women's Bodies to Sell - Pin-Up Girls,
Objectification of Women, and
Self-Objectification, The Pinup Blog and
myself have the distinction of being referred
to, many times. Lowen raises many valid
points, that I grapple with every day. Of
course, yours truly just
had to reply, so go
check it out and maybe add something to this
meaningful conversation, I’m glad to be a
part of.

Women and nature - the two greatest muses
of all times. I just got an email
that Blog Action
Day is back in action, this year. I
actually had this lovely Nature of Pinup
Girls article all ready for them,
supposing that they’re all about the
environment. Was I surprised, when I
found out, this year we blog about
poverty. So you get your Nature of
Pinups article a little early and I get
to challenge myself in linking pinups to
poverty.
For all you bloggers out
there:
Blog Action Day is a wonderful awareness
project. Each year, on October 15 th, bloggers unite
and write about one issue of importance.
Last year was a fantastic success, with the
issue being the environment. This year
promises to be even bigger. So join us!
Now, without further ado: The
Nature of Pinup Girls!

Lilsis is a Swidish
web-designer, who usus her blog mostly to
collect art that inspires her. Luckely for
us, most of her collection is of the pinup
variety. For you classisists I warn: this
isn’t classic pinup girl. This is mostly
modern neo pinup Art Nouveau stuff. Keep
your mind open and go get some inspiration
with these humble pieces of art.

It’s a little screwy, it’s a lot of sexy-
it’s vintage and retro pinup ads!
Old ads always
look quirky and ridiculous. Pop-culture moves
so quickly something from 5 years ago doesn’t
even make sense! I’m taking you back to some
distinct visual times, to take a look at the
quirky and sexy art of vintage and retro ads.
George Petty - The Master of What The
Fuck?! I don’t know who was
the perv, who decided to pair up George
Petty with Ridgid (a heavy-duty tools
and plumbing utility manufacturer). I
also don’t know why this series of pinup
girls have ballet slippers on. But
goddamnit! This is one of those
classics. Petty made a ridiculous,
sexist, stereotypical connection between
women and heavy duty machinery, and that
always makes for a delightful
lighthearted pinup.

I’m still in the giving mood and the
Bi-Weekly Bombshell is really all about that
link lovin’. Today I give props to Pin Up
Addiction, a new blog all about pinup
couture. Each post is dedicated to a retro
shoe, a vintage dress or girlie
accessories. It’s the personal taste of
the blogger and she gives her honest
opinion, which is what I cherish the most.
Good luck to you (she who only goes by
“admin” ), I like your style!

Pinup art is alive and it’s online!
As an artist, I’m
part of the online community for artists,
called DevintART.
As I said on Sunday, it’s really
important for us artists to support each
other. So here are some of my friends, who
create incredible pinup art, from classic
cheesecake, to neo pinup Goth, to
meta-pinups.
Asaru-75 for Diversity Asaru-75 is all
about color and strength. He presents a
few different female characters of
different ethnicity, but this African
pinup is by far the most appealing. As a
modern woman, this is a character I can
relate to; She’s sexy and tough with a
badass attitude, and it’s pretty obvious
she’s on a mission.
Check out
Asaru-75’s gallery at DeviantART!

Being an artist, I
know how hard it is getting your name
out there. There’s always the dream of
making your art, your primary income. So
I think it’s important we stand by each
other. For your viewing pleasure, this
is a retro greeting card created by
Gabriela
Arriaza, a card maker/ addicted
stamper. She creates with a tint of
retro and I love it. This new piece,
Bombshell Beauty, is my favorite, I think
it fantastically captures the naivete of
the atomic age.
