Pinup Girls

Pinup art is alive and it’s online!
As an artist, I’m
part of the online community for artists,
called DevintART. As I said on Sunday, it’s
really important for us artists to support
each other. So here are some of my friends,
who create incredible pinup art, from classic
cheesecake, to neo pinup Goth, to
meta-pinups.
Asaru-75 for Diversity

Asaru-75 is all
about color and strength. He presents a
few different female characters of
different ethnicity, but this African
pinup is by far the most appealing. As a
modern woman, this is a character I can
relate to; She’s sexy and tough with a
badass attitude, and it’s pretty obvious
she’s on a mission.

Cryingbear - BBW Vector
Cheesecake

Cryingbear is a
vector artist that primarily creates BBW
pinups. The work is simple and beautiful
and is very reminiscent of classic
cheesecake. I’m partial to McDonna (on
the left). It’s a very self-aware piece
that says something about the world we
live in.

Leighyoung - Classic Cartoon
Cheesecake

Leighyoung is a
fabulous illustrator, who continues the
cheesecake legacy of the 1950’s. The
pinups are adorable and yet sexy and
have an array of expressions. From a
sweet smile, to a devilish grin, to a
ferocious Betty Page roar. With a lot of
humor and grace, Leighyoung’s pinup
girls are definitely the closest I found
to classic cheesecake.

Glittersniffer - Pinups go
Goth

Glittersniffer is a
very impressive Goth-artist. The amount
of detail in each image is astounding
and the Emo/Goth influences are obvious.
It’s bloody and gory and and beautiful
and I just love every piece she creates.
In a way, it’s the story of a whole
generation.

FurtiveLungs - The Artist’s Self Portrait
as a Pinup Girl

FurtiveLungs is the
youngest on the list. She’s just 17 and
she does the photography, makeup,
styling, editing and modeling all by
herself. The shots are mostly close-ups,
but I believe she still fits the bill as
a pinup. FurtiveLungs makes for a
gorgeous pinup girl, but her gallery is
also a fascinating project of
self-portraits.

Loish - A Delicate Hand
A highly skilled illustrator that makes you
feel that each pinup drawn is loved. These
women aren’t cunts- they are beautiful. With
delicate strokes Loish builds up volume in
her creations. Even the line art is delicate.
It’s a fresh way to see pinups, especially
when neo pinup art can be so vulgar.

Somavenus - Meta Pinups

Somavenus has a
deconstructive approach to pinups-
literally. Somavenus’ media of choice is
the collage, so her pinups are
physically fragmented. It’s a
fascinating body of work, which grows
more and more poignant with time.

Terry Taylor - Bringing Design into
Pinups

Taylor is a
fantastic illustrator, with an
incredible eye for design. His pinups
say a whole lot, using very little.
They’re strong, sexy and tell a story,
using the most basic elements of visual
art; line, shape and color.

Viamarie - Classic Neo Pinups
I
thought we’ll finish off with some classic
neo pinups. Viamarie is a photographer,
makeup artist and stylist, who specialize in
glamor. She’s one of the photographers for
Pinups for
Pups, and as such, gets to shoot the
top pinup models in the business. Her
work is glossy and highly stylized and
is a big part of the neo pinup
phenomenon.
