Over two years of The Pinup Blog and,
surprisingly enough, we’ve yet to touch on a
very pinup-esque theme: The zodiac.
Women as allegory
came up in last
week’s post. Today is all allegory
with Zodiac Pinups. Though traditionally
woman have been used in the images of the
Virgo sign and often Aquarius, this week,
we’ll be focusing on complete series of
women as zodiac signs.
#10 Fantasy Zodiac Pinups
Probably what you’d
most expect to see out of a woman zodiac
series, but surprisingly not the most
commonly found on the net. Soft and
meticulous fantasy art, with kitschy
mystical touches. It’s less overtly sexy
and focuses more on femininity.
Something for the whole family
In dramatic scene, tough and even evil,
it’s the sexy Easter bunny fantasy gone
awry.
One of the most
common fantasies in cyber space, the
sexy bunny, has endless Google results.
While the typical sexy Easter bunny is
just a poster girl, on the sweet side
and often a Playboy cliche, I’ve run
into a more fetishistic bunny, this
year, which I’m more than glad to share
with you.
Not exactly cheesecake and not exactly
beefcake, but definitely sexy! It’s time to
feast your eyes on the butch pinup.
Feeling comfortable
in your own skin is the number one
ingredient for sex appeal. Not every
woman feels sexy in heels and lipstick,
and as a result, not every woman
is sexy in
heels and lipstick. This week, The Pinup
Blog takes a look at the diverse and
beautiful butch women, who prefer men’s
shorts over panties, and sideburns over
curlers.
The Mormons are at it again! Chad Hardy,
the man who brought us Mormon beefcake (and
was excommunicated for it), isn’t neglecting
our hardy appetite. This year, in addition to
Mormons Exposed, he brings us the retro Hot
Mormon Muffins calendar. Campy, but tasteful,
and for- not one but- two good causes! Other
than raising awareness about the diversity of
Mormons, some of the proceeds of the
calenders goes to breast cancer research.
That’s another calender to add to
the list this very sexy year, so have a
good one!

Winter is upon us and it’s time for the
pinups to cover up! (Or at least hold an
umbrella...)
It’s getting cold
and grey in my part of the world, and I’d
like to greet the coming season with all the
beautiful winter pinups (and beefcake) I
could find.
The Baseballs - Umbrella
Cover
It’s great to start with a little Rockabilly
beefcake. The Baseballs are a German
Rock’n’Roll cover band. They take modern hits
and turn them into 50’s styled hits. This is
their Version of Rihanna’s Umbrella.
Halloween is coming up and it’s time to
get horrifically sexy with a look at the
pinups of horror television (and one movie).
And ask a few questions about what it all
means?
Lust and fear come
together in the horror entertainment
industry. Basically, where there’s a
scary monster, you’ll find a beautiful
lady, making for a good star-crossed
lovers tale. Many times, however, you’ll
find the lady is actually the monster,
claiming archaic ideas that a woman’s
lust is a dark desire that will consume
you. All this and so much more
allegories, in The Pinup Blog’s
Halloween special.
KrautBoys is a
fantastic erotic art blog that specializes
in artistic neo beefcake, with homoerotic
overtones. In fact, it’s so good, it’s the
first beefcake site I’m adding to the
sidebar! If you adore those
not-too-buffed, shapely, sporadically
tattooed and pierced young men, with an
artistic twist, you’ll love KrautBoys.

While the wholesome folks at Disney keep
our children at a safe distance from luscious
cleavages and male nipples, you guys go back
home and elaborate on the fantasy. This week
on The Pinup Blog: Brilliant, sensual, Disney
pinups!
The up and coming
Princess and the Frog, reminded me of all
the times I saw an elaboration on a Disney
character. Disney’s men and women become
icons and are instantly recognizable, thus
making for fantastic, sexy pastiche. But
before we delve into the world of R-rated
Disney mock-ups, let’s take a look at
Disney’s own subliminal sex appeal, to the
left. It’s amazing what context can do.
“Since the dawn of time, the promise of
our charms has been used to urge our men into
battle. We are called up to rally behind our
troops, and to give the boys something to
take their minds off their job: WAR. Those
times are over.”
These lovely words
are those of Pinups for
Peace. A grassroots organization
promoting peace with a sexy, retro edge.
You don’t need much to be pinup for peace,
just show up at your nearest love-fest,
demonstration, or strike, wearing your
nylons and garters and hold up the sign:
“Burlesque not Bombs!”
The group’s site shows that there hasn’t been
much activity since 2008. As my readers know,
this cause is dear to my heart, so I thought
I’d give it a boost, and remind all you
pretty ladies to get out there and fight for
something that’s really worth it!
While searching for artsy burlesque, I
stumbled across the DC
Cowboys Dance Company. This gay
cultural group is not only infectiously
fun, they stand for ideas I love to
promote on this blog: Diversity, tolerance
and unapologetic sexiness. With slogans
like Diversity Through Dance and Brokeback
Meets Broadway, and a classic beefcake
theme and attitude, I was won over
instantly.

SvarTTrasT
is a fantastic Icelandic photographer,
that I stumbled across on Flickr. He
creates
a lot of impressive imagery, but I’m
focusing on his marvelous effeminate
beefcake. I don’t know what I like more about
this image; The fact that it’s so well done,
the humor, the GLBT twist, or more proof that
all men have fine long legs and they should
be the ones wearing short skirts.

Celebrating sex and diversity with the
classic theme of pinup on
DeviantArt.
Last
August, I gave props to 9 magnificent
pinup artists. I’d like to celebrate
more deserving pinup artists, again, so
that’s today’s focus. You’ll find a lot
of diversity and a lot of cheek.
Celebrating sex and diversity with the
classic theme of pinup.
Miss Cadence - Start with Something
Traditional
I thought I’d start off with something
traditional. Miss
Cadence is a beautiful neo pinup.
She’s a classic beauty and just does the
job right. She also brings in a classic
diversity, as Miss Cadence comes in all
your favorite colors: blonde, brunette
and redhead.
You don’t have to
speak Dutch in order to click the
abundance of wonderful links at Pinup.Jouwpagina.nl.
Conveniently titled in English, you can
find artists, celebrities, beefcake ad
much more. An attractively packaged pinup
resource site, with some real hidden
treasures.

They’re muscular, beautiful, have an
outrageous sense of style and can out-walk me
in high heels any day. The Pinup Blog lists
its top 10 favorite transvestites.
Transvestites are usually ignored by
mainstream society. Often they’re considered
freaks. Personally, I love effeminate men for
their beauty, honesty and courage. This list
is a homage to my favorite sweet
transvestites.
#10 Freddie Mercury and Keith Lemon -
Mustached Freedom
OK, I know what you’re thinking, and I’ll be
honest and say, this is not my fetish.
That’s why these
outrageous ladies are in spot 10. There
are two reason why Freddie Mercury- a
part- time practicing transvestite- and
Keith Lemon- who only dressed up for
this show (correct me if I’m wrong)- are
on this list:
They both went retro.
Isn’t it amazing how a small detail
like a mustache can completely challenge
perceptions of gender and beauty
conventions?
These men were both trying to be funny, but
they made me think about what we consider to
be obvious: men in mustaches are not
feminine. Really? Look again:
"Nobody talks but everything gets said --
MANLY is a sexy mix of the rough and the
smooth, a dream about sex with the sounds
off." —Alexander Chee, author of
Edinburgh
Gay erotic comics full of kink and
tenderness between masculine
men
Amy Colburn, an
up-and-coming illustrator of hot male-on-male
art, joinsDale
Lazarov,
writer/editor of
STICKY(Bruno Gmüender
Verlag, March 2006) to bring you manly
stories about manly men doing manly things to
each other.
Beefcake searches always leave me
wanting, especially at Christmas time. Could
it be that only gay men consume
beefcake?
Last year I
nominated the
top 10 Christmas neo pinups. I thought
I’d see what beefcake had to offer in that
category. It’s a short list this year. As
always, a search for beefcake is much
tougher, as they seem to be scarce (in
relation to their female counter part).
Always leaving me asking that age old
question: Where’s the beef?!
I’ll start off with this excruciating Shawn
Connery, to the left. I don’t know what the
hell the man was thinking, but there you have
it. I know this isn’t a Christmas themed
beefcake, per se, but he’s so festive in that
red fetish get-up... Just look at him as my
Christmas gift to you.
Long black hair, deep brown eyes and a
dark complexion are the qualities I’m looking
for this Thanksgiving.
Last year, I
collected (quite unsuccessfully, so thanks
for everybody that pitched in )
Thanksgiving pilgrim pinups. This year,
in the name of diversity, I’d like to focus
on the Native American pinups.
#10 Redworks Creations - Native American
graphics for MySpace
It seems like each
list I make has a bit of MySpace in it.
And it seems like MySpace has many
niches to cater to. The Native American
niche is alive and kicking with some
great images and a lot of glitter at
Redworks
Creations. If you look deep into the
site, you can find some kickass Native
American pinups.
OK, this is
definitely one for the books, but if
this is where mormonism is going- I’m
in! Apparently, Mormons
Exposed is the brand with a message
of religious and cultural tolerance,
that produces the Men on a Mission
calendars. The beefcakes are 12 former
Mormon missionaries, "baring their
testimony" (not kidding, it’s in the
faq’s!), and
the idea is to vanquish religious
stereotypes. As you know, I’m for anyone
using pinups for a good cause, especially
diversity- you go, you hunky mormon
missionaries, you!

Peter J.
Ketchum is a fine artist with a
passion for ephemera. He collects old
original black and white images:
snapshots, photos, postcards, tin types
and carte de viste and edits them or
adds color, in order to convey his
message. Ketchum is a social artist, who
tries to understand stereotypes and
common beliefs in society, through his
altered vintage collections. A lot of
his work would be considered off-color
and it represents yester-century’s
stereotypes and explains its connection
to today.

Amidst all the
over-sexed media there are few
non-pornographic havens that capture an
old innocent feeling. In the tradition
of the 1950’s damsels in underwear
distress, Paul
Richmond’s Cheesecake boys are exactly
that. A collection of sweet, clumsy, sexy
men. Richmond is a fine artist and
illustrator, a proud gay man and an
activist. Inspiring and fun, go have a
look at his online studio.

After writing last week’s cheesecake
article, I was challenged at Digg, to find
the beefcake twins. Knowing how hard it is to
find beefcake at all, I rose to the
challenge.
Where’s the beefcake?!
Apparently there
just isn’t as much demand for male twins
as female twins. This sailor image is
the only vintage image I could find and
it’s quite uninspired. I mean, this
photo is so asexual could have been
taken by their mother!
Fear not, my beefcake twin hungry mongrels!
I’ve managed to hunt down a few modern day
beefcake. It seems that twins have more fun
than regular male models. Maybe it’s in the
already playful nature of a twin photo shoot?
Who knows.
Desperately looking for pinups in the
undergrounds of Israel, I managed to
completely overlook Nir Hod, part of the
upper-ground art scene, in
Israel.
Nir Hod is a young,
yet established Israeli artist. His main
visual focus is in dramatic, erotic
kitsch, and his thematic focuses are
life, death and beauty. Women and
androgynous men are often represented in
his art.
I’m not a fan of Hod’s, I don’t like his
drama, nor his vain self-obsession, but I
love a beautiful image and a job well done,
and that’s something he produces in
abundance.
Last time I saw
The Rocky Horror Picture Show I was too
young to understand all the delicate nuances
of this film. But one thing was for sure: I
adore Tim Curry!
His opening song had every bit of influence
on me, as
Jessica Rabbit's. This is not just for my
GLBT readers (though I did think of you
). Curry has the voice,
body and poise to create a mesmerizingly
sexy burlesque performance. See for
yourself, the sweetest transvestite
bombshell to ever grace the silver
screen.

Between the 1930’s to the 1960’s Beefcake
was at it’s hight. Very popular in gay
circles and very much in the closet- sold as
health pamphlets.
It’s not easy to find
beefcake. Not even on the internet. And even
when you find it, it lacks the luster and
playfulness, found in it’s female pastry
counterpart. I’ve searched high and low for
male pinups and managed to find a few gold
nuggets worth your attention.
Sexual art is usually underground or very
niched. Because of this, artists throw all
inhibition away and correct the politically
incorrect. There are no holy cows in the
pinup business, just beautiful pinup girls
(and boys) of all shapes, sizes and
sexes.
Hard to find but worth the
effort
It's true that if you do a Google
search of the term “male pinups” you wouldn't
get much of that retro beefcake fun. Not to
mention the poor results on “African American
pinups”. But if you look deep and maybe throw
in a couple of names, you will find Dorothy
Dandridge and a handful of
naked men (not together! )
Sexual art (A.K.A. “pornography” ) has never
been subjected to the cultural snob's
censorship. What's the point? Smut is smut,
right?
