The internet is an
incredible place for diversity. The
beautiful
Persephonii, a LiveJournal blogger, took
her shot at pinup posing and came out a
gorgeous African American, BBW cheesecake,
for one shot.

“Fool” is surprisingly a very common word
in love songs. This year, the first of April
takes a serious turn with 10 gorgeous and
diverse pinups that sing about fools.
Today’s top 10 April Fools pinups have little
in common. They come in all shapes, colors
and sizes and sing in various styles and
genres. All of them, however, have phenomenal
talent and all will be singing songs that
have the word “fool” in them. Enjoy the show!
#10 Aretha Franklin - Runnin’ Out of
Fools
We start with the 1964 classic, Runnin’ Out
of Fools, with a young and sweet, but very
mature Aretha Franklin. It’s always
fascinating to see the alternative images
sold at the time to the public and better
yet, through an incredible performance, like
this one.
Nothing makes a celebration like music,
and no Christmas is complete without a sexy,
stripping Santa!
They are gorgeous, they
dance, they sing, they strut and occasionally
strip. It’s The Pinup Blog’s top 10 sexy
musical pinups!
#10 The Caburlesque Kittens do Sweet
Candy
The
Caburlesque Kittens are a burlesque
group from San Diego County. Keeping it
clean, they’re almost a family show and
perfect for some light Christmas
dancing. They also get Pinup Blog props
for injecting a little diversity into
the classic Christmas pinup fantasy.
It’s The Pinup Shop’s and Blog’s second
birthday and it’s time for the top 10
articles, you pinup lovers loved the most! I
won’t spoil it for you, I’m just proud to say
that diversity dominates this list.
Before we start,
here’s a personal celebration message from me
to my beloved readers (courtesy of RattleBox):
They come in all known genres and
fetishes, the only difference is that you
can’t pin them up. Introducing pinup
sculptures.
Pinups have been named as such, for their
function rather than their content.
Today, however, I think it’s safe to say
that pinup is more than something you…
well... pin up. It’s fashion statement,
it’s an aesthetic, it’s a lifestyle. And
now, it’s highly stylized and glossy
sculpture!
Above, you can view the damn fine work of
Mike James. A
multi faceted artist, James does
photography and drawings, as well. His
sculptures are an idealized blend of
cute and muscular.

Last
August, I gave props to 9
magnificent pinup artists. I’d
like to celebrate more deserving
pinup artists, again, so that’s
today’s focus. You’ll find a lot of
diversity and a lot of cheek.

Miss Cadence - Start with Something
Traditional
I thought I’d start off with something
traditional. Miss
Cadence is a beautiful neo
pinup. She’s a classic beauty and
just does the job right. She also
brings in a classic diversity, as
Miss Cadence comes in all your
favorite colors: blonde, brunette
and redhead.
They’re hispanic, BBW, male,
anthropomorphic and they have one thing
in common- They’re all in a bunny
suit!
Easter brings
upon me a message of hope, this
year. Out I went to fetch you some
Easter bunnies and to my pleasant
surprise I found a world of
diversities. All sexy, all bunnies,
in all sizes, shapes and colors.
It’s the diverse universe of the
Easter bunny fetish- as long as you
got long ears- you’re in!
This one’s for
all the ladies out there, who just
love their ladies retro. Featuring
Brooklyn's queer community, I Love
Brooklyn Girls began its sexy way
in 2006. This year the Brooklyn
bombshells will be poking fun at
gender roles with their “professional
pinups”. And if that wasn’t enough,
these lovely femmes will donate 10% of
their proceeds to The
Lesbian Herstory Archives. It’s
for a good cause, and anyway, you know
you want to

We all know Snow
White had ivory skin, ebony locks
and red lips and cheeks. But nobody
said she was the petite character
Walt Disney had envisioned. I love
my big models and I love it when
they have a big attitude and ask for
a daring idea, that challenges
consensus. Here's our BBW
version of Snow White.
So if you love yourself a big and
beautiful Snow White, she comes on all
the items below:

As an artist,
I’m part of the online community for
artists, called DevintART.
As I said on Sunday, it’s really
important for us artists to support each
other. So here are some of my friends,
who create incredible pinup art, from
classic cheesecake, to neo pinup Goth, to
meta-pinups.
Asaru-75 for Diversity
Asaru-75 is all
about color and strength. He
presents a few different female
characters of different ethnicity,
but this African pinup is by far the
most appealing. As a modern woman,
this is a character I can relate to;
She’s sexy and tough with a badass
attitude, and it’s pretty obvious
she’s on a mission.
Check
out Asaru-75’s gallery at

Yes, I sat myself down
and asked myself why it is I blog about
pinups. It’s so trivial, it’s so silly
and so horny! So why then? Here are 10
fine reasons!
#10 The Detail
I’m a sucker for
good craftsmanship. Most people are.
As an art student you learn to
appreciate abstract art and god
knows I love it, but there is always
a special place in my heart for that
artist that can really draw
convincing fingernails and get deep
into the garter-clasp details.
I've always said retro is for all shapes
and sizes. Lately I've stumbled on
Torrid, which is
a U.S. wide clothing chain for the
big and beautiful. Now they're
online, as well. And really, the
pictures say it all. A lot of
thought goes into these designs, and
although Torrid isn't
all retro,
it's got a lot of it. Even though it
has nothing to do with size, Torrid
got me with their crazy feathered
hats, I'm definitely ordering me
one of those!

Plus-size pinups are a niche within a
niche. It's hard to see a potential of
growth outside of the plus-size fetish
community. I would like to propose
otherwise, by showcasing a few plus-size
pinup artists.
Searching for
plus-size pinups is (as in many other
pinup sub-niches) tough and yields little
results. Even more discouraging was
finding the following short
conversation on Yahoo Answers, in the
begining stages of research.
Q: Who are some of the greatest
plus-size pin-up models of today?
A1: Look on myspace, and you'll find
plenty. the thing is, pin-up models,
plus size or otherwise, aren't really
part of a booming industry outside of
fetishists, Betty Page fans and tattoo
conventions. Can you name a
contemporary pin-up model (outside of
Dita Von-Teese) at all?
Plus size pin-ups especially are a
non-issue - I can't name any because
there aren't any famous ones. Again,
you'll find hundreds of women calling
themselves plus size models on myspace
- so you can check them out there, but
the majority of them are not actual
models.
A2:Are you talking about waist line or
bust size?
Not a huge market for fat pin-ups. Pun
intended.
With the advent of the internet the
market for modern pin-ups has become
huge, de-valued, international, and
fragmented. I can't say who is the
queen of today's pin-up market. 99% of
pin-ups are viewed eletronically and
never make it to print. Just 10 years
ago it was the complete opposite.
Certainly there is no modern Betty Page
of any size.
A few good
months ago I wrote an article about
pinups and diversity. A prominent
shortage of African American pinups
bugged me. So I was pretty ecstatic when
I was contact by my current model. Black
and voluptuous, she made The Pinup Shop
truly diverse.
In the spirit of diversity and the
up-coming St. Patrick's Day, I thought
I'd retaliate to all the
"Kiss Me I'm Irish" T-shirts on
CafePress and give the non-Irish a
chance to be loved.
Sexual art is usually underground or
very niched. Because of this, artists
throw all inhibition away and correct the
politically incorrect. There are no holy
cows in the pinup business, just
beautiful pinup girls (and boys) of all
shapes, sizes and sexes.
Hard to find but worth the
effort
It's true that if you do a
Google search of the term “male pinups”
you wouldn't get much of that retro
beefcake fun. Not to mention the poor
results on “African American pinups”. But
if you look deep and maybe throw in a
couple of names, you will find Dorothy
Dandridge and a
handful of naked men (not
together! )
Sexual art (A.K.A. “pornography” ) has
never been subjected to the cultural
snob's censorship. What's the point? Smut
is smut, right?
